5. Michael Jackson: What more do I need to say, Michael Jackson is known as being the king of pop, the moonwalk and thriller. Michael was born on the 29th of August, 1958 in Indiana, United States of America. He started singing when he was just 6 years old when he joined the Jackson 5. He then started is solo career in 1971.  When he was in the Jackson 5, some of their most popular songs were ‘I want you back’ (1969), ‘Ill be there’ (1970), ‘ABC’ (1970) and ‘Blame it on the Boggie’ (1978). When he left the Jackson five and started his solo career his best hits were: ‘Thriller’ (1982). When I first saw and listened to the thriller video clip I thought it was EXTREMELY scary, but then when I re-watched, I realised it was an amazing piece of music. The video clip flows perfectly with the song and it is awesome. Another one is ‘Jam’. I used to always listen to this song before basketball games and it really got me in the mood. The beat and the song really gets the blood pumping and when watching the video clip it was cool to see Michael Jordan along side MJ. The vibe that Michael Jackson brought when he was singing was amazing, his music was awesome.

John Williams

4. John Williams: John Williams was born on the 8th of February, 1932 in New York, United States of America. John has written some of the best movie theme songs ever! He has written the Star Wars songs, Jaws, Superman, ET, Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park etc. John graduated from the University of a California. His debut album was ‘The John Tower Touch’ which was in 1957. Over his 6 decade long career, he has earned the reputation of being one of the best composers from the modern era. He has starred in over 50 concerts. Williams has won five Academy awards, four Golden Globe awards, seven British Academy theme awards and 22 Grammy awards. All up he as won 38 awards and he has received 50 nominations for the Academy award. This leaves him with the second most self-nominations behind Walt Disney which is a massive achievement. In 1977 the Star Wars theme song got to number 10 on the U.S billboard. This is also a significant achievement because movie songs rarely do well on the U.S Billboard. His most recent piece of music was ‘The Book Thief’, from the movie the Book Thief, which won an award for Best Instrumental Composition. His pieces are known for their building up to the climax (Jaws) and very precise and amazing instrumental play (Star Wars). As a Star Wars fan I love the way his music engages with the movie and it really makes you feel the emotion of the film itself. Growing up listening to the music, everytime I heard the first note of the Star Wars theme song, I got excited because his music really engaged me.

Their music often creates thousands of fans wanting to go along for the experience when they go on tour.

Bill Conti

Imex Task 3:
Tomas Lawson 8 DE

1. Bill Conti: Bill Conti was born on the 13 of April 1942, in Rhode Island USA. He Graduated from the North Miami High School in 1959. He studied music and composing at the Julliard School of Music.

He is well known for his music which was used in the Rocky Movies (Gonna Fly Now, Going The Distance To The Final Bell), he also has had his music used in films like: The Karate Kid 1,2 and 3, For Your Eyes Only (James Bond) and the Right Stuff. He has been awarded the Academy Award for the Best Original Music Score in 1984 for his music in the ‘Right Stuff’. He also received the Primetime Emmy Award for Most Outstanding music in 1992, 1998 and 2002. His debut album in 1976 was surprisingly his Rocky songs. This is extremely amazing because it shows the brilliance in Bill’s work and how good he is at it. He has received 3 golden globe nomination and 13 Emmy nominations. Bill was later on inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in April 2008 in the LSU Union Theatre. To this day he is regarded as a very successful composer. Bill Conti’s music brings great energy and really gets you pumped. For example the Rocky theme song builds up and up and up to the very top and then goes bang. He achieves this by using very high notes on instruments like the trumpet and tuba which creates the suspense and builds up to the climax. If you have watched the rocky movie, the music almost perfectly ties in with the movie because when he is going for a run, he starts off running at a slow and consistent pace. He then starts to start running faster and at the same time the music starts to build up as well.
